A professional writer is just an amateur who didn’t quit. – Richard Bach
I have a secret to tell you today, writer.
Your favorite author—the one who inspired you to write—is a regular person just like you. They began their own writing journey with a spark and blank page and wrestled through writer’s block and rejection and misunderstandings—even some disasters. So what made them great? It’s simply this…
They didn’t quit. They kept writing.
The beautiful thing about that, writer, is that perseverance is a choice we can all make. It is a strength we can all grow. And it takes no special aptitude to do so. All that’s required is simply to get up the next day, sit down at our desk, and write again. And then to do it again the next day. And the next.
You see, our victory as writers is often found more in consistency and persistence than in moments of undimmed glory. Those will come, too. But in the middle—what wins the day—is simply getting up and writing again. Submitting that manuscript again. Reopening that challenging edit.
So, I challenge you today, writer: this week, pick a day and simply sit down, and write again. You may be surprised what happens when you do.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us… – Hebrews 12:1
Every writer writing.
