“In the spring, I have counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours.” Mark Twain
Last night, my daughter and I dodged thunderstorms on the way back to Oklahoma from our farm. Lightning flashed all around, and a couple of downpours were intense but didn’t last long.
The rain that drenched our journey was good news, even though it was scary on the road. After all, we’d planted trees on our property – lots of them.
Are you expecting me to compare writing a novel with planting a tree?
Well, of course.
Actually, finishing a creative venture is way bigger than planting a single tree. It is like planting 30!
Team Thomas was at its finest. By the time we were done, an ornamental cherry, magnolia tulip and Japanese maple found just the right place in the front yard. Flowering shrubs lined the bare foundation. 18 pint-sized Eastern pines dotted the boundary of what will soon become a corn crop.
We couldn’t bring the rain, but it came that night like an answer to prayer.
Crafting something beautiful doesn’t just happen. It requires a plan, perseverance, and teamwork. We can’t bring rain at the end of all that work, but we can sure ask for it.
What does rain look like at the end of a big accomplishment?
Maybe, it means celebrating with fried pies and family at a local diner. It could look like asking for feedback from others or actively inserting ourselves in a community to hear, Way to go!
Storms can’t eclipse joy forever. We anticipate the goodness of rain on the best we have to offer.
Then rejoice together when it arrives with a bang!
