Stories are light. Light is precious in a world so dark. Begin at the beginning. Make some light.” – Kate DiCamillo
It’s Christmastime, writer. The time of year when Hope Himself entered our world. And what a world He entered! One of oppression and violence and darkness. One where God had been silent for over 300 years…
Sometimes life is like that, writer. We look, and it feels dark. But I encourage you: our King has come! And He has come to restore us to Himself and to our original purpose.
Maybe your original dream to write felt as bright and brilliant as the star over Bethlehem and the choir of angels that greeted the shepherds. But somewhere after that initial moment of inspiration—life attacked—like a false king rising up to kill your dream.
Perhaps today your dream of writing feels more like refugee parents trying to scrape out a living in a foreign country… But I encourage you, writer, the King who came to save us returned from exile—and He can return you from your exile, too. That’s the glory of Christmas, writer. The promise of restoration when the world was at its darkest. As it says in John’s Gospel…
John 1:4-5 – “In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
So no matter where you are—whether in exile or on the mountaintop—your King has a plan to restore everything that may have been lost. This season, let Him open your eyes once more to the wonder of the gift He’s given you. And then, pick up your pen, and write again. You have no idea the light that will begin to shine through you as you do.
