Sometimes we need a little encouragement, writer. A little boost to get us past our next hurdle, or to our next word count goal, or just to our computer for one more day of edits.
Sometimes, we look for that little bit of encouragement in things. Or for that little boost from social media. Or even for that little lift from some good self talk. And none of that is necessarily a bad thing. But let me encourage you today, writer…
One of the best boosts you will ever receive is from a praying friend.
Just like it says in Philippians 1:4…
In every prayer of mine I always make my entreaty and petition for you all with joy (delight). – Philippians 1:4
Now, writer, here’s the beautiful thing. Our King designed us for Himself and—you guessed it—for His people. And that includes writers, too. After all, He is King over a KINGDOM and Shepherd over a FLOCK.
Why, you ask? Here’s the interesting thing. Just like we like to talk about our King and write about our King…our King likes to talk about us. And He likes to do it with others.
With people who will agree with Him about what He’s said about you. People who will help you as you pursue His path. People who will remind you of who He is when you forget. People who will remind our King of us when we forget to seek Him.
Because here’s another interesting thing, writer. Our King loves for us to have praying friends—so that sometimes He can speak to them…about us…and to us about them. You see, we all hear differently, writer. And sometimes our King wants to say something we wouldn’t understand without a praying friend with a different life experience to help walk us through it.
So my question to you today writer is…do you have a praying friend? I encourage you this holiday weekend to pause and consider who your King has placed specially in your life in this season. What men or women of wisdom has He given you to walk with? Once you feel like He’s shown you, I encourage you to ask them to pray for you. And how you can pray for them. Because here’s the final thought…
One of the best ways to find a praying friend…is to become one. Ask the Lord who He wants YOU to watch over in prayer. The person you pray for may not ever pray for you, but as we pour ourselves out in prayer for those He loves, our King draws near to share His heart for them with us in a special way and to strengthen us as we carry them, too.
So I challenge you today: Ask the Lord to give you praying friends, and let the Lord lead you to become a praying friend. As you allow Him to connect you to His people, you will find your heart begins to expand to hold more of Lord, too!
