Sometimes, writer, it can be a little hard to sleep at night. But what is it that keeps us up, writer?
For me, it has been fear and anxiety. The anxieties of life that rear their ugly heads in the quiet of the night, when there are no distractions to drown them out. This can be a huge problem. Why? Because sleep is precious, writer. A well-rested body and mind is a key to creativity.
Our enemy knows this. That is why he works hard to burden us and to clutter our minds with fear, But here’s the thing. The Lord also knows this. And He has a solution. Actually, it’s an invitation…
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
Isn’t our King wonderful, writer?
He doesn’t just care about our work for Him. He cares about every part of our lives. When we realize this and take up His offer and invitation, we find this to be true…
In peace do I both like down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. – Psalm 4:8
So how about you, writer? Have you been struggling at night? Let me challenge you—whatever burden or fear is keeping you up—cast it into the arms of your King. He is more than able to perfect that which concerns you* and to keep what which has been entrusted to Him!* Then lie down in peace, knowing that while you sleep, He is awake and at work on your behalf!*
Sweet dreams.
