How do you find courage when you need it, writer?
There are so many places we look. In ourselves. In friends. In inspirational messages. In our skills and knowledge. In our bank accounts. But let me tell you, writer. The very best place to look for courage is in the Word of God.
There are several reasons to begin with God’s Word. First, there is the simple confidence that comes from knowing that—if God said it—He will do it. But there is a much richer well of courage to draw from, writer, when it comes to the Word of God. Our King shows us a picture of it in Joshua 1:8.
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. – Joshua 1:8
Did you catch that writer? We are promised that when we meditate on God’s Word day and night—we will make our way prosperous and find good success.
Now we all know, writer, that there is success that is good and success that is not good. But what is it that determines which kind of success you will have? The answer is…
Wisdom.
It is God’s wisdom alone that will guide us into true and satisfactory success, writer. Because when we know to walk in God’s ways, then we will not fall for the lies, the thief, and the murderer who comes to steal, kill, and destroy our work. Does that mean we will not have troubles? Of course not! But the difference between troubles faced with my wisdom and troubles faced with God’s wisdom is a quantum leap.
So what does this have to do with courage, you might ask? It’s a good question. Because here’s the thing. Many of our fears in life come when…we don’t know what to do. When calamity strikes and we feel left breathless and clueless.
So here is the beautiful thing. We never have to stuck in “breathless and clueless” again. Because our King has promised to give wisdom to all who ask. Especially, when they face adversity.
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. – James 1:2-5
Do you see the connection here, writer? Courage to face our troubles comes from wisdom. And wisdom comes from tie with the Lord—in His Word studying it so that we may be able (strengthened) to do it!
So how about you today, writer? Do you find yourself facing a situation or a goal that demands courage? Courage you don’t feel you have?
Let me encourage you. Begin spending a little time every day—and maybe even in the evenings, too—to really chew on God’s Word. Because whatever we digest will begin to form the building blocks of our thoughts, then our actions, then our emotions, and then our lives.
So here’s to you, writer, as this week you spend a little time building your courage with God’s Word. Because if you do and continue, you will be amazed to see what God does through you!

Love the idea of chewing on and digesting God’s word. Every day at least once a day.
Thank you, Charlene! It’s been a very helpful picture for me, too! 😀
