Dear writer, do you ever feel like God is far off? Like you’ve been forgotten in your time of need? Sometimes, life leaves us feeling high and dry…unexpectedly run aground amidst unplanned circumstances. But I am here to tell you today…
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. – Eph 2:13
You may feel far off, but your helper is very near! There is another place in the Bible that says the very same.
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.Psalm 139:7-10
So why do you feel far off, writer? Most often, it is our own view—our own dim picture of ourselves—that distances us. And here’s the thing. That dim picture will never bring you peace. But when you began to look, no longer at yourself, but at the beauty of your helper—your King—that’s when life becomes clear again.
And here’s the other thing. You King will always be near to you. Why do I know this? Let’s look one more time…
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. – Ephesians 2:13
Dear writer, your King paid to be with you by His very blood. When you pay a high price for something, you will not willingly abandon it. You will keep it close by. If it gets broken or injured, you will do all you can to repair or restore it. If it is lost, you will go to any length to search it out.
With our King, no search isn’t necessary. You never leave His sight! He loves you that much.
So if you’re feeling far off today, writer, take heart! Your King is still by your side. All you need to do is turn. Turn from the dim mirror of self and its endless demands of self-adjustment to the brilliance and beauty of your King. As you fix your gaze on Him, He will begin to do the part you cannot.
