Sometimes, writer, you just need to wait for it. You may feel like your story will simply not end. Your book will simply not get published. You message will simply not be heard. I have good news for you, writer. You are one in a long line of famous “waiters.” Just think about it.
David waited 15 years to be King. Abraham waited 29 years for Isaac. Noah waited 100 years for a flood. This is just to name a few. And guess what?
Every single “waiter” got what their King had promised them.
Hebrews 6:13 – For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” 15 And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.
Each one patiently waited to obtain their promise.
So what does it look like to wait? All of these famous “waiters” kept moving—preparing for their promise. Each was obedient to the call they’d received. Does that mean they waited perfectly? Absolutely not. But here is the beautiful thing. Their promise was backed by the word of their King—not by their performance.
Hebrews 6:16-18 – 16 For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. 17 So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, 18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.
So I encourage you today, writer. If your King has called you to write, His word is your guarantee. You do have a story worth sharing. It will get written. The book will get published. The message will be heard. As long as you keep going.Just like any of these famous “waiters” the only one who can stop you is you.
Sometimes, in our waiting, we can become anxious. The promise seems to be taking longer to arrive than we think it should. And we begin to run after the first thing that looks like the next best thing to God’s answer. Sometimes, we birth an Ishmael in our zeal. But, the beautiful thing is, writer, that just like Abraham, we can simply turn back to the Lord for the restoration of our original promise. Our King is also our priest, interceding on our behalf!
Hebrews 6:19-20 – 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
When we turn back to the Lord, restoration is inevitable, because He himself is our hope. A hope that doesn’t disappoint. Our King and high priest has not given up on us or our dream. His gifts and calling are irrevocable.
So…keep going, writer. Don’t let the “wait” of it all get you down. Like other famous “waiters,” let it grow your faith and your strength. Lean on your King for the grace and wisdom you need, knowing that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion.
